SC commutes 2 murderers’ death sentence

The Supreme Court commuted capital punishment to a 30-year jail term for two persons convicted of killing eight persons in Jharkhand in 2007. This comes a fortnight after the court held that capital punishment should not be awarded when there is hope for “reformation and rehabilitation” of a convict and commuted death sentence to life imprisonment in a case of rape and murder of a five-year-old girl.
